WELCOME TO THE AMAZING CHAT RACE!
The Amazing Chat Race is a competition based off of the hit CBS TV series The Amazing Race. It will include up to 10 teams of 2 competing to win. There will be different "legs" of the race, and during each leg there will be an elimination of the team who finishes all challenges last. (Although, there may be predetermined non-elimination legs as designated by the host.) In case you haven't heard of or watched The Amazing Race, below is a brief overview of the different obstacles that may be encountered on each leg.
Clues will be given at different intervals that will include instructions for challenges that are to be completed by each team, which may include any of the following:
1. Route Information: Provides a clue about where teams should go next/do next. It may be a direct statement, or a puzzle that teams will have to solve to know what to do.
2. Detour: Two options will be given to teams. Teams will have to pick which task to complete, both with pros and cons. At any point, if a team finds a detour too hard, they may switch to the other detour, with no penalty, but time lost working on the other detour will not be reimbursed.
3. Roadblock: A task that only one member of the team must perform. Teams will be given a clue about the task, and the team mebers will have to decide which team member will complete the roadblock BEFORE the task is revealed. The team member completing the task may not be switched at any point after the task is revealed.
4. Fast Forward: This will not occur during every leg of the race, only during one or two legs. It is a task that a team may complete to skip all of the following tasks and go directly to the pit stop during THAT LEG ONLY. However, this almost ensures a first place finish for that leg if completed. Only ONE team may complete a Fast Forward. As many teams as desired may attempt the Fast Forward, but once a team completes it correctly, the Fast Forward closes and all other teams must stop and continue on which the next clue, with time lost attempting to complete the Fast Forward not being reimbursed.
5. Express Pass: The Express Pass will be given to the team who comes in first on the first leg of the race. At any point during the race (up to the final 4), the team holding the Express Pass may trade it in to bypass a challenge and continue onto the next one. (It may NOT be used to bypass a Fast Forward.)
Obstacles that may be encountered include:
1. Yield: When a Yield occurs, a team may force any team behind them to stop that leg of the race for 5 minutes, being unable to complete any challenges during this time. If a team chooses to Yield another team, they must reveal their identity. You do not have to use a Yield another team if you don't want to, as it may create enemies. After the 5 minutes have elapsed, the team may continue on.
2. U-Turn: Similar to the Yield, a team may force any team who is behind them to complete the other half of the Detour in the given leg before they may continue. Again, the team must reveal their identity and a U-Turn is not required to be made as again, it may form enemies. After the other team completes the other half of the Detour, they may continue on.
Structure of the race:
1. Leg: A leg is one portion of the race, during which challenges must be completed. At the end of a leg, the team who finished last may be eliminated, depending on whether or not it is a pre-determined nonelimination leg.
2. Pit Stop: The Pit Stop is the end of each leg. The last team to reach the Pit Stop may be eliminated, as stated above.
3. Speed Bump: If a team comes in last on a nonelimination leg, they will have an extra task to complete in the next leg called a Speed Bump. They must complete this task before continuing on in the race.
If at any time a team does not complete a task correctly, but continues on with the race, once they reach the pit stop they will face a 15 minute penalty.
At the end of each leg, teams that finish ahead of others will wait until all other teams finish and a team is eliminated to move onto the next leg. The team that comes in first will get a 1-minute headstart before the 2nd team, the 2nd team will get a 1-minute headstart before the 3rd team, the 3rd team will get a 1-minute headstart before the 4th team, and so on.
I hope this all makes sense to you, but if anything doesn't, please feel free to contact Bumble or I (Penny) and we will be more than happy to clear up any confusions.
This is NOT like a normal "gameshow". This is a FRIENDLY CHAT COMPETITION OF FUN. There will be no voting players out, it is solely based on the skill of each team in the challenges provided each leg.
We aren't sure yet if it would be better to try to hold this event in one day, or try to stretch it out over a few weeks. It depends on peoples' schedules, as we want to make sure we can accomodate everyone. When this is worked out, we will be sure to let you know the updated information ASAP.
Once you figure out who your teammate is (don't just assume, make sure you confirm with the other person), please follow the below directions.
To enter one member of each team of two must comment with the following:
1. Names of two team members
2. Team name (Must be a combination of both team members' names)
3. Dates/times when both of you will be available
4. Any extra information you would like to add
ONLY THE FIRST 10 TEAMS TO SIGN UP WITH BE ACCEPTED, SO SIGN UP QUICKLY.
Also, both team members must confirm that they are ok with their partner, so I would appreciate it if both team members commented their confirmation, but only one team member has to answer the above questions. EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY TALKED TO US AND ARE A "CONFIRMED" TEAM, PLEASE STILL COMMENT BELOW OR YOU MAY BE REPLACED.
Thanks so much for your cooperation as everything is worked out.
On your mark. Get set. Race.
P.S. Bumble and I (Penny) are NOT hosting this competition. However, we are just getting the competition organized until a proper host is found. We will NOT plan any challenges or anything like that to ensure that everything is kept 100% fair. If you have a problem or question, feel free to contact one of us. (:
P.P.S. At this point in time, there will be co-hosts of k0 and Lew. (AKA Black and Yellow.)
